In this video, real estate investor and hard money lender Beau Eckstein talks about getting construction loans for real estate right here in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Beau's private money fund makes all sorts of hard money loans throughout California; however, they limit their construction loans to the area that they can cover on the ground. What this means is that they do construction loans on real estate they know. They physically walk construction sites to see if a project will meet their criteria, and they can't do that in a geographic area larger than the vast San Francisco Bay Area.
As Beau says, “construction loans are very transaction-based”, meaning that private money lending companies do repeat business with real estate investors they've done business with in the past, and only for areas and regions they understand intimately.
